We rarely travel over winter break due to my work schedule, but we did manage to sneak one in 2006 to Hawaii (Maui, specifically) to celebrate our 10th Anniversary. One of the highlights of this trip was a return visit Haleakala National Park, the focal point of the volcanic formation that comprises about three-fourths of the island of Maui.
There are various ways to enjoy this park, and one popular excursion is to be driven up the very windy road to the 10,000 foot summit and bike down the road. We preferred to drive ourselves up the summit area and hike on the Kaupo trail. In some ways, you feel like you are walking on the moon.
